Mother-daughter duo killed as boulder triggered landslide hits house in Poonch

Jammu, Nov o4: A mother-daughter duo died while one male member of a family was critically injured after a big boulder following a landslide hit their house at Bafliaz village in Poonch district on Friday, police said.
The officials said that a house came under shooting stones and big boulders after a landslide hit at a road upgradation site at Bafliaz on Friday morning. Three people of a family got buried under the debris of the house, police said.
Followed by the incident, Quick Reaction team of the Indian Army from Bafliaz camp and police teams from Behramgala Chowki reached the spot and launched a rescue operation.
“All the three members of the family were traced and taken out by the rescue teams and the locals and later they were shifted to sub-district Hospital Surankote where two of them succumbed to their injuries during the treatment,” a police official said.
He said that one of the critically injured victim has been referred to GMC Associated Hospital Rajouri for advancement treatment.
Police identified the deceased as Naseeem Akhter (34) wife of Mohammad Latief and her 9-year-old daughter Rubina Akhter.
The injured has been identified as Mohammad Latief son of Mohammad Hussain of Bafliaz, Poonch.
When the last report reached in, a rescue operation was still underway at the site of the landslide to trace out some livestock buried under the debris.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has expressed pain over the loss of lives in the accident.
He took to Twitter to write, “Anguished by the loss of lives due to a landslide in Bufliaz, Poonch. In this hour of grief, my thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved family. Prayers for the early recovery of injured. Directed district administration to provide necessary assistance to the affected family.”
