Jammu, Oct 31: The Government had observed the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel as the ‘Rashtriya Ekta Diwas’ (National Unity Day) on 31st October every year.
This occasion was an opportunity to foster and reinforce our dedication to preserve and strengthen the unity, integrity and security of our nation.
Vallabhbhai Patel not only played a leading role in India’s freedom struggle but also made unparalleled contribution to the merger of princely states and jagirs of various princely states into the Republic of India.
Unity Runs scheduled to be held across the country is expected to honor his contributions and strengthen the feelings of patriotism and national unity among the general public, especially the youth Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan, an autonomous body under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports is organizing 75,000 Unity Runs across the country between 7-9 AM on 31st October 2022, i.e. a minimum 121 runs per district with the involvement of members of youth clubs of the district, volunteers, voluntary organizations, Panchayati Raj Institutions, Sports Institutions, Community Institutions and Secondary, Higher and Higher Educational institutions.
Unity Pledge will be administered to the participants and cycle and motorcycle rallies will also be organized as part of the celebrations. On this occasion NYK Jammu organized district level Run for Unity to commemorate the birth anniversary of Sardar Patel at Jammu and Samba district. In Jammu district, the district level unity run is scheduled to be flagged off by the chief guest Sh. Bharat Bushan, DDC Chairman Jammu from G.C.W. Parade Ground to University of Jammu with the participation of more than 200 youth in the rally. SD NYKS J&K and Ladakh Sh. Nisar Ahmed Butt, Prof. Naresh Padha Dean Academic Affairs, Prof. Prakash Anthal, Dean Student Welfare, Prof. Rakesh Vaid Faculty JU, Dr. Hema Gandotra NSS, Programme Coordinator, Dr. N. Suresh Rao Faculty Computer Science And Dr. Ankush Bhagat IAS Sr. Superintend Telecom Dept. were also witnessed the programme. The run starts from G.C.W. Parade Ground to University of Jammu via fly over.
In Samba district, the district level unity run has been conducted in coordination with District Youth Service and Sports which was flagged off by the chief guest Sh. Sudarshan Singh DDC Chairman Samba and Sh. Jatinder Singh Sarpanch of Village Gurah Slathia. The first run started from Gurah Slathia to War Memorial and second run started from Higher Secondary School, Gurah Slathia to Maharaja Hari Singh Statue. More than 160 participants participated and mini bikes rally was also conducted simultaneously. Volunteers of NYK Jammu also organize Unity Run at block, village and zonal level in collaboration with, NSS, YS&S and Education deptt.
Simultaneously, A month long Clean India 2.0 was also concluded today. The program took inspiration from the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s Panch Pran – Goal of Developed India which would also necessarily be a Clean India. Clean India 2.0 programmes was organized in 6 Lakh villages of 744 districts across the country through the network of Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS) affiliated Youth Clubs & National Service Scheme Affiliated Institutions. A target of 1 crore Kgs of waste collection and disposal was set for the Campaign and as per the provisional data available at the time, NYKS has collected 1.5 crores waste, far exceeding the targets set for the campaign.
Under the program cleaning of public spaces and households across all the districts of the country was conducted under the leadership of NYKS and NSS involving all segments of society, Government organizations including PRIs and Non- Government Organizations/Civil Society Organizations, instilling awareness and feeling of pride among citizens to keep their surroundings clean and waste free. Along with this, the campaign also gave the mantra of “Swachch Kaal: Amrit Kaal” making the program a People’s Movement through Jan Bhagidari.
