Srinagar, Dec 31: Mohammad Ahsan Rather was on Sunday elected as the Chairman of J&K Yateem Foundation (JKYF) for a two-year term. He took the oath of secrecy and allegiance to the JKYF during the official ceremony.
The Central Executive Committee (CEC) of JKYF, consisting of elected executive members from all districts in J&K, conducted the election through a secret ballot at BAITUL HILAL, Jawahar Nagar Srinagar. Rather secured a remarkable 17 votes out of 18.
According to a press release issued here, the secret ballot indicated that there was no open contestant in this election, as per the provisions of the JKYF Constitution. As outlined in the JKYF Constitution, the outgoing Chairman, Mohammad Rafiq Lone, had served two successive terms and was ineligible for a third successive term.
Mohammad Ahsan Rather, a Founding Chairman, had previously served two terms in the same role. Additionally, he contributed as a member of JKYF’s Permanent Accountability Commission (PAC). Being one of the founding members since the establishment of JKYF in the year 2000, he aligns with the organization’s mission to serve the poor, deserving and destitute irrespective of caste, colour, creed, region or religion, the Yateem Foundation said.
The election process was conducted under the oversight of the Permanent Accountability Commission (PAC) of JKYF, led by two members, Mohammad Ahsan Rather and Dr Tariq Ahmad Malik.
