Reasi, Nov 05: Union Minister of State for Science & Technology and PMO, Dr Jitendra Singh on Sunday praised the “transformative” initiatives undertaken by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government for the welfare of Divyangs (persons with disabilities).
Speaking at the ‘Divyaang Sashaktikaran Sammelan’ held here, Dr Singh said, “Modi-led government’s Divyaang welfare reforms were inspired by a sensitive commitment and were in keeping with Modi’s declaration soon after taking over as PM that his government would be committed to sections of society hitherto not given the deserved priority and attention by successive governments in the past.”
Dr Jitendra said these initiatives include fee remission for Divyangs in the Civil Services Examination, an expanded choice of cadre preference for qualified Divyangs, and an increase in reservation from 3 percent to 4 percent. The raise in Divyang special allowances for parents and additional support underscores the government’s commitment to providing equitable opportunities and fostering diversity in the public sector.
The minister highlighted the broader initiatives undertaken by the Modi government, such as the distribution of 10 crore LPG cylinders under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, a monumental achievement. The Swachh Bharat Abhiyan has led to the construction of an impressive 12 crore toilets across the nation, substantially improving the quality of life for millions of Indians.
Furthermore, Dr Jitendra announced a remarkable increase in welfare support for Divyang individuals, doubling it from 27,000 to 54,000, which will provide them with greater financial stability and address their daily needs and requirements.
As a testament to the government’s commitment to healthcare accessibility, Dr Singh inaugurated the Free Mobile Eye Clinic Ambulance during the event. This initiative will offer comprehensive eye examinations, consultations, and treatment to individuals in the Reasi region. It seeks to prevent, diagnose, and manage eye conditions, ultimately leading to improved vision and a higher quality of life for all.
The “Divyaang Sashaktikaran Sammelan” was attended by prominent individuals, including National President Saksham Dayal Singh, President SAKSHAM J&K Abhay Pargal, District Development Council Chairman Saraf Singh Nag, District Development Commissioner Vishesh Mahajan, DIG Udhampur-Reasi Suleman Choudhary, and other distinguished citizens.
