Jammu, March 03: The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly witnessed high drama on Monday as AIP MLA Langate, Sheikh Khursheed Ahmad staged a protest inside the Central Hall while Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha began his address.

Holding placards, Sheikh Khursheed vocally opposed several policies of the administration and demanded justice for the victims of recent killings in Baramulla and Kathua.

Senior leader of Awami Itihaad Party and MLA Langate Sheikh Khursheed Ahmad demanded the restoration of Articles 370 and 35A, arguing that their abrogation had stripped Jammu and Kashmir of its special status and rights.

He called for the release of all political prisoners, stating that detaining leaders, activists and youth without trial is undemocratic. He also sought justice for the families of two men killed in Baramulla and Kathua, urging the administration to conduct a fair probe and provide compensation to the victims’ families.

The legislator opposed the termination of government employees, condemning it as move undermines livelihoods. He also demanded an end slapping the Public Safety Act (PSA) and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), arguing that these laws are being used as tools of suppression.

As he continued raising slogans, Assembly marshals swiftly intervened and escorted Sheikh Khursheed out of the House. Despite the disruption.

Speaking to reporters while continuing his protest outside Assembly, Sheikh Khursheed declared, “We will not be silenced. AIP will continue to fight for justice, for our rights and for the political and economic well-being of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.”

AIP Chief Spokesperson Inam Un Nabi strongly backed Sheikh Khursheed’s protest, stating, “Our fight is for the people of Jammu and Kashmir, for their dignity, rights and justice. The government must acknowledge the sentiments of the people and take immediate steps to address these serious concerns. AIP will not back down from raising its voice, no matter the circumstances.”
