Srinagar, Nov 30: MLA Langate and Awami Ittehad Party (AIP) leader Sheikh Khurshid on Saturday expressed disappointment over the termination of two government employees, calling it an unfortunate continuation of practices from the Lieutenant Governor’s administration.
Condemning the move, Khurshid said it was disheartening to see an elected government following in the footsteps of the Lt Governor’s regime. Speaking on the issue, he criticised the lack of due process and expressed his dismay at such actions occurring under a democratic government.
“It is highly regrettable that during the Lt Governor’s rule, employees were terminated without due process. Now, under an elected government, the same is being repeated. This is a matter of shame for us as representatives of the people,” the AIP leader said. He urged the government to take immediate and concrete measures to address the issue and prevent similar actions in the future.
Referring to a speech by the Lieutenant Governor that was later approved by the cabinet of the current government, the MLA Langate questioned the rationale behind these terminations. “When the LG’s speech was being endorsed by the cabinet, did anyone ask why such drastic measures were being taken against employees? This sword of arbitrary action must be stopped,” he asserted.
Khurshid called upon the government, including Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, to intervene and ensure that such decisions are reconsidered. “There is a need to provide justice to the affected employees and restore public faith in the system,” he said.
