Banihal, Jan 30 : In a major step toward strengthening sports infrastructure in Banihal, MLA Sajjad Shaheen laid the foundation stone for a state-of-the-art Open Air Gym in the premises of Government Higher Secondary School, Banihal, aiming to promote fitness and well-being among the youth.

A large number of locals, sports enthusiasts, and officials were present at the event, marking another milestone in the region’s journey towards fostering a culture of sports and healthy living.

Expressing gratitude to Hon’ble Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Minister for Food, Transport, and Youth Services & Sports, Satish Sharma, and Secretary Youth Services and Sports Mr Sharmad Hafiz, MLA Sajjad Shaheen acknowledged their overwhelmed support in developing sports infrastructure in Banihal.

“I sincerely thank Hon’ble Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for his vision and commitment to empowering youth through sports. His leadership has been instrumental in bringing such projects to the ground. I also extend my gratitude to Hon’ble Minister Satish Sharma for his support in ensuring that modern fitness facilities are made available for our youth,” Shaheen stated.

The Open Air Gym, once completed, will provide a well-equipped space for fitness enthusiasts and young athletes, encouraging a healthier and more active lifestyle.

Highlighting the surge in sports infrastructure development across Banihal, Shaheen informed that several projects, including a full-fledged stadium, an indoor sports complex, mini-stadiums, and multiple playgrounds across the constituency, are in progress to nurture local talent.

Sajjad Shaheen also raised concerns over the rising drug menace in society and made a heartfelt appeal to the youth to play an active role in combating the issue.

“Our youth are the backbone of our society. While we are creating opportunities for them through sports and education, it is equally important that they remain away from the dangers of drug abuse. I urge our young generation to come forward and actively participate in eradicating this menace from our society. Together, we must build a future that is healthy, progressive, and free from addiction,” Shaheen emphasized.

Local residents and youth organizations welcomed the initiative, vowing to support efforts in promoting fitness, sports, and a drug-free society. The Open Air Gym is expected to be completed within the stipulated timeframe, adding to the growing sports ecosystem in Banihal.
