Anantnag, Feb 28: Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Anantnag West, Advocate Abdul Majeed Bhat on Friday laid the foundation stone for a new 3×30-meter, two-lane truss girder bridge over Nallah Sandran at Damjan, Anantnag to boost local connectivity.
Chief Engineer R&B South Kashmir, SE R&B South Kashmir, officers and officials from various departments and local residents were present on the occasion.
Highlighting the significance of the project for the region, the MLA stated that the new bridge, once completed, will provide much-needed relief to the local population by improving transportation access, easing traffic congestion, and reducing travel time.
“The project is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the region’s infrastructure and ensure better connectivity for remote areas to key urban centres. The bridge will serve as a vital link, particularly during inclement weather, providing an all-weather route for people and goods,” he said.
Bhat added that the bridge will bring economic benefits, boost local trade and make commuting easier for everyone.
The bridge, expected to be completed in two years, is funded under NABARD, with an estimated cost of Rs 1063.04 lakh. It will be designed to withstand harsh weather conditions and accommodate the region’s growing traffic needs.
Residents of the area expressed enthusiasm for the new project, saying that it will not only improve transportation but also contribute to the socio-economic development of the region.
The bridge is expected to benefit a large number of households, particularly those in the more remote areas of Anantnag West, by providing safer and quicker access to medical, educational, and commercial facilities.
