Haveli (Poonch), Jan 25: Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Haveli, Ajaz Ahmed Jan, conducted an extensive tour of various snow-affected areas of Poonch district, including Mandi, Sawjian, Loran, Shahpur and the upper reaches of Haveli, to take stock of the difficulties being faced by the public due to heavy snowfall. During his visit, the MLA carried out a surprise inspection of ration depots, where he reviewed the quality and timely distribution of essential commodities. Upon receiving complaints regarding substandard wheat being supplied to consumers, he issued strict on-the-spot instructions to the concerned officials to ensure good-quality ration and punctual distribution, emphasising zero tolerance towards negligence. The MLA also visited the border area of Sawjian, where heavy snowfall had caused significant damage to roads and power infrastructure. Several electricity poles had collapsed, and live wires were found lying on the ground. He closely monitored the restoration work being undertaken by the Power Development Department under extremely challenging conditions. Electricity supply was successfully restored in Loran, Sawjian, Shahpur, and the upper reaches of Haveli through coordinated efforts by the STD team at Receiving Station Sawjian. The team was led by AEE Mohd Maqbool Ganai, with support from AE Sudheer Khajuria, JE Zaher Ahmed, Technician Taseer Khan, and dedicated line staff. Impressed by the hard work and dedication of the temporary (daily-wage) power department employees, the MLA announced an on-the-spot cash award of ₹5,000 as appreciation for their tireless service in restoring power amid adverse weather and difficult terrain. He further assured that he would raise the issue of regularisation and rights of daily wagers in the Assembly, so they may receive their due entitlements. Speaking on the occasion, Ajaz Jan said that snow clearance machines had already been deployed in several affected areas and would soon be extended to other regions to ensure road connectivity. "While power supply has been restored in many areas, locations that suffered extensive damage may take some time, but full restoration of electricity and roads will be ensured at the earliest," he said. The MLA said the government is committed to providing relief to the people and assured that all hardships arising from snowfall would be addressed with priority. The local residents expressed gratitude to the MLA and the concerned departments for their timely intervention, relief efforts, and continued support during the crisis.
