Poonch, Jan 28: In a strong initiative aimed at promoting road safety and safeguarding human lives, MLA Haveli, Ajaz Ahmad Jan, conducted a helmet distribution drive at various locations across Poonch. The programme primarily targeted young motorcyclists who were seen riding without helmets, exposing themselves to serious risks on the road.
During the drive, the MLA personally distributed helmets to several youths and other individuals riding two-wheelers without protective headgear. Addressing the public on the occasion, Ajaz Ahmad Jan emphasized that human life is extremely valuable and must be protected at all costs. He expressed serious concern over the increasing number of road accidents caused due to negligence and non-compliance with traffic safety rules, particularly the failure to wear helmets.
He stated that several precious lives have already been lost in avoidable road accidents, leaving families shattered and communities in grief. Wearing a helmet, he said, is not merely a legal requirement but a moral responsibility towards oneself and one’s family. “A helmet can be the difference between life and death,” the MLA remarked while urging riders to make helmet use a habit rather than a compulsion.
Ajaz Ahmad Jan also appealed to parents and elders to guide young people about traffic rules and the importance of safe driving practices. He stressed that awareness, discipline, and responsibility on roads can significantly reduce accidents and fatalities.
Local residents appreciated the initiative, calling it a timely and humane step towards road safety. Many youths who received helmets assured that they would strictly follow safety norms and spread awareness among their peers.
The helmet distribution drive sent a strong message to the public that riding a motorcycle without a helmet not only endangers one’s own life but also places unnecessary suffering on loved ones. Such initiatives are expected to create greater awareness and encourage safer driving practices across the district.
