Kulgam, May 16: The district administration Kulgam has kick-started a cleanliness, awareness, and pledge drive as part of the Mission Lifestyle For Environment (LiFE) campaign.
Divisional Forest Officer Syed Wasim, who is the nodal officer of Mission LiFE, told Rising Kashmir that a cleanliness push and a pledge-taking ceremony were organised in Kulgam. Under the campaign, several activities were held in which a large number of people were involved in a clean environment mission.
“The Mission LiFE campaign will focus on mass mobilisation of NGOs, PRIs, line departments, sister wings of the forest department, and so on. Our goal is to spread the Mission LiFE concept and save our environment from degradation,” he explained.
Wasim said the campaign was held at a range of sites around the district and that forest authorities, teachers, and students pledged to conserve the environment through the Mission LiFE programme.
“In addition, forest officials carried out a plastic-free environment awareness and cleanliness drive in a number of areas. Also, with the same aim, awareness about environmentally conscious behaviour and the importance of a reasonable and eco-friendly environment was held in the Damhal Hanjipora region,” he said.
The government has chosen seven topics under mission LiFE on which to focus its efforts. These are “save energy; save water; say no to single-use plastic; adopt sustainable food systems; reduce waste; adopt a healthy lifestyle; and reduce e-waste”.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced Mission LiFE during the 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26) in Glasgow.
