Mission LiFE events culminate at SKUAST-Jammu

Jammu, May 13: Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-Jammu) in collaboration with NAHEP-IDP and NSS wing of SKUAST-Jammu hosted an expert lecture on “Environmental Degradation and Climate Change”, as part of series of events held under “Mission LiFE”. Prof. B.N. Tripathi, Vice Chancellor SKUAST-Jammu was the chief guest on this occasion.
Prof. Tripathi in his address expressed concern over the climatic aberrations occurring due to over exploitation of the resources which might have serious implications in future. He emphasized the need for a shift towards sustainable practices, in light of Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment) envisioned by Narinder Modi, Prime Minister of India in 2021 UN Climate Change Conference at Glasgow, commonly known as COP 26. Prof. Tripathi stressed upon the importance of adopting lifestyle that is eco-friendly and promotes environmental conservation at individual and community level.
On this occasion, an expert lecture was delivered by Prof. A.S Jasrotia, Head Department of Remote Sensing and GIS, University of Jammu, who spoke at length about the critical issues such as natural calamities owing to impact of climate change such as floods in rivers like Jhelum, Chenab, and Indus. Prof. Rajinder Peshin, Director of Education & Chairperson Mission LiFEProgramme, SKUAST-Jammu, in his opening remarks provided an overview of the “Mission Life”, its alignment with United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and focus on circular economy principles.
Winners of the poster and ideation competitions, held earlier as student pre-events, were awarded certificates, mementoes and cash prizes by the Chief Guest. The first prize in poster making competition was awarded to Ms. Yashaswini Sharma for her poster on the theme “Swatcha Bharat-Unnat Bharat”, and in ideation competition first prize was bagged by Mr. Divyansh Pandey for presenting his concept on “Hormones from Stallion Urine”. During the event, certificates were also awarded to winners of competitions held on water day and earth day.
Officers of SKUAST-Jammu Prof. S K Gupta, Director of Research; Prof. Amrish Vaid, Director Extension; Prof. Sanjay Khar, Director Planning and Monitoring; Prof. Anil Kumar, Dean Faculty of Agriculture; Prof. Rajesh Katoch, Dean Faculty of Veterinary Sciences & Animal Husbandry; Prof. Vikas Tandon, Dean Faculty of Horticulture & Forestry; Prof. Sushil Sharma, Dean Faculty of Agricultural Engineering and Prof. S.E.H Rizvi, Dean Faculty of Basic Sciences graced the event with their presence. The programme was attended by Heads of Divisions, Associate Director Extension, faculty members and over 700 students of various faculties of the University. Prof. Sudhakar Dwivedi, Dean Student Welfare extended formal vote of thanks. Dr. Ankur Rastogi conducted the proceedings of the event.
