Srinagar, Feb 2: Several hours after a soldier from the Territorial Army (TA), went missing while traveling from his home in Anantnag to Rangreth Srinagar on Sunday was traced by police on Sunday, officials said.
A senior police officer told Rising Kashmir that the soldier was identified as Abid Hussain Bhat, son of Abdul Gani and a resident of Kharpora Chittergul Anantnag Uttersoo, was expected to report for duty on February 1 after a month-long leave.
“However, when he failed to reach his designated location in Rangreth and his mobile phone was found switched off, concerns were raised about his whereabouts,” he said.
Following his disappearance, a coordinated search operation was launched by law enforcement agencies. “A search was immediately launched after his absence was reported. Multiple agencies were involved in the process, considering the sensitivity of the case,” he said.
“On Sunday evening, we successfully traced him, and he is currently being questioned. So far there is no terror angle to this entire case,” he said.
Last year also, Army soldier Javaid Ahmad Wani, 25, a resident of Achathal village in Kulgam, went missing after he left for Chawalgam village, in the same district, to buy eatables for home. He was also traced back by the authorities.
