Anantnag, Aug 21: Former J&K Pradesh Congress Committee President Ghulam Ahmad Mir on Monday was accorded a rousing reception on his becoming a member of the Congress Working Committee – the highest decision-making body of Indian National Congress.
Mir, who has been serving the Congress party for more than 40 years, was nominated to CWC by the Congress High Command. The jubilant Congress workers and sympathisers gathered at Omoh Verinag and accorded a rousing reception to him and thanked the Congress High Command for his topmost new assignment in the party, a statement issued here said.
Speaking on the occasion, G A Mir expressed heartiest gratitude to Congress High Command for nominating him to CWC and assured the people of Jammu and Kashmir that it will always be his endeavor to represent their urges and aspirations in the party’s highest decision-making body (CWC).
The former JKPCC President appreciated the party’s decision of nominating a grassroots-level worker that too from a remote area of Jammu and Kashmir to a CWC top rank, which he said is truly a great honour and acknowledgment of the dedication and devotion towards Congress.
He assured the people that he will take up their issues with the party’s higher forum. “The restoration of statehood and democratic process shall be one among his topmost priorities,” he said.
Mir urged the party workers of J&K to remain steadfast to serve the Congress party to the best of their ability. “Congress never compromised on the urges and aspirations of the public and always worked for the betterment of the people,” he said.
