Srinagar, Aug 19: In a tragic incident, a 6-year-old girl lost her life while a woman suffered grave injuries after being attacked by a wild animal at separate locations in Kupwara district.
According to reports, a 6-year-old girl named Subhat Jan, daughter of Abdul Ahad Mir and a resident of Nichama, was grievously injured when she was attacked by a wild animal while playing near her home. She was immediately moved to a nearby hospital, but she was declared dead upon arrival by the doctors.
In another incident, a 39-year-old woman named Rafeeqa Begum, who is the wife of Nazir Ahmad Pir and resides in Drangsoo Mawer, suffered an attack by a black bear while tending to her kitchen garden.
The attack inflicted severe injuries on her, leading to her urgent evacuation to NTPHC Qalamabad for medical treatment. Due to the severity of her injuries, she was later transferred to SMHS Hospital in Srinagar for further medical care.
The occurrence of these distressing incidents has spread panic among the local villages, prompting a collective call for action from the wildlife department.
Villagers are urging authorities to implement measures to trap or tranquilize the dangerous animals, with the aim of preventing further tragedies.
Meanwhile, wildlife officials are advising people living in close proximity to forest areas to exercise caution while venturing outside their houses, especially during the morning and evening hours. They have also mobilized their teams to capture the animals at the earliest opportunity. The officials have mentioned that some wild animals have already been captured in the Rajwar areas, and efforts are underway to catch the remaining animals in these areas.
