Srinagar, Aug 30: An eight-year-old girl sustained severe injuries while she was playing at her residence in the Zonarishi, Chokibal area of Kupwara district. The incident took place on Wednesday evening, as the young girl inadvertently stepped on what is believed to be an old shell, triggering an explosion that resulted in her injuries.
According to an official source, the unfortunate incident occurred while the girl was playing at her home. She was rushed to a nearby medical facility, where she was referred to the Sub-District Hospital (SDH) in Kupwara for advanced treatment.
The injured child has been identified as Azra Qayoom, the daughter of Abdul Qayoom, hailing from the Zonarishi locality.
Meanwhile, investigation are on to ascertain the reason behind the blast.
