Srinagar, Oct 03: A driver was arrested by police in south Kashmir’s Awantipora area after he allegedly crushed a minor girl to death on Tuesday.
Police said that a road traffic accident took place at Reshipora on early Tuesday (02 October) in which one girl, Adeeba Arshid (10) daughter of Arshid Ahmad Shiekh, a resident of Reshipora was hit by a dumper bearing registration number JK01AE-3177. The vehicle was being driven rashly and negligently by the accused driver Mohammad Haneef Khanday son of Ali Mohd Khanday, a resident of Meej Pampore.
“In the incident, the girl died on the spot. Acting swiftly, a Police team apprehended the accused driver within an hour of the incident,” police said.
Later, the police took cognisance of the incident and registered a case under relevant sections of law besides the dumper used in the crime was also seized, they added. (CNS)
