Jammu, March 24 : Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday said that militancy cannot be wiped out in Jammu & Kashmir without involvement of people.
Talking to reporters , Omar Abdullah said that militancy and law and order is not the domain of the elected government but they are lending helping hand so that the situation remains peaceful and under control.
“I have repeatedly said that without involvement of people, militancy cannot be uprooted,” he said.
He said that no contact has been established by forces with militants in Kathua.
“As far as my information is concerned, no contact has been established. Search and cordon has been launched after suspicious movement in the area,” he said.
To a question about the Waqf Bill brought by the Union Government, Omar said Waqf institutions are being selectively targeted.
“It is evident that only one religion is being targeted. Religious institutions are affiliated with every religion There is no religion which doesn’t have its institutions. There is no religion which doesn’t carry out charitable activities.
Muslims carry out charitable activities through Waqf but it is being selectively targeted,” Omar said—(KNO)
