MeT predicts two-day widespread wet spell from today

Srinagar, May 28: After two days of dry weather, the Meteorological Department (MeT) on Sunday predicted intermittent widespread rain, hailstorm and gusty winds during the next two days in the Himalayan region.
Director Meteorological Centre Kashmir, Sonam Lotus told Rising Kashmir that they were expecting widespread  light to moderate rains with possibility of hailstorm during the next 48 hours in the region.
Lotus advised farmers to suspend irrigation in field crops and chemical spraying of Orchards from  may 29 to May 31. People must travel after confirming road status from concerned traffic police, he said.
He said from 1st to 5th June, weather will be generally cloudy with intermittent light rain, thunder at a few places in the region.                
Following the dry and clear weather on Sunday, Kashmir witnessed an increase in night temperatures, Srinagar recorded 23.3 degrees Celsius as the maximum temperature and 9.6 °C as the minimum temperature.
Srinagar recorded 25.4 degrees Celsius as the maximum temperature and 8.9 °C as the minimum temperature.
Pahalgam settled at 20.9°C degrees and 2.6 °C as minimum temperatures. Ski-resort Gulmarg recorded 14.0 °C as the maximum temperature and 3.4°C as minimum temperature.
 Winter Capital Jammu recorded 35.0 degrees Celsius as the maximum temperature and 19.2 °C as the minimum temperature. Qazigund recorded 24.0 and 6.6 as minimum temperature.
 A traffic police department spokesman said during the past 24 hours, Jammu Srinagar highway remained closed for 02 hours 46 mins due to Shooting stones and maintenance work at multiple places along the highway.
On Monday, subject to fair weather and road clearance, Passenger and Private Cars shall be allowed from both sides on Jammu-Srinagar NHW viz Jammu towards Srinagar and vice-versa.
“TCU Jammu, Srinagar shall liaise with TCU Ramban before releasing the traffic,” it said.
Similarly, on the Srinagar-Leh highway, LMVs shall be allowed from both sides and HMVs shall be allowed from Srinagar towards Kargil on SSG road. 
“LMVs will be released from Sonamarg towards Kargil at 0600 hrs. to 0830 hrs. followed by HMVs upto 1030 hrs. and LMVs will be released from Kargil towards Srinagar at 1400 hrs upto 1700 hrs.  No vehicle shall be allowed between 1700 hrs. and 0600 hrs,” it said.
Similarly on Mughal Road, subject to fair weather and good road condition, only one way traffic LMVs from Shopian towards Poonch shall be allowed  on Mughal Road. These vehicles shall be allowed from Hirpora Shopian towards Poonch at 7 AM upto 2 PM, reads the advisory.
