Srinagar, Nov 04: The Meteorological Department (MeT) on Friday said they were expecting a fresh spell of rain in plains and snowfall in higher reaches of Kashmir from Saturday evening onward till November 7th, officials said.
Director of Indian Meteorological Centre Kashmir, Sonam Lotus told Rising Kashmir that they were expecting light to moderate rain and snowfall over higher reaches from Saturday late evening.
“Apart from higher reaches, there are chances of light spell at rains in plains also during the same period,” he said.
Lotus said from Saturday evening, there will be a slight decrease in day temperatures in the Valley and evenings will be colder.
He said from November 5th to 8th, the snowfall and low temperature may lead to temporary disruption of surface transportation over Zojila, Sinthantop, Mugal road, etc.
“As per present conditions, there is 70 percent chance of snowfall in higher reaches and rain in plains, during the same period,” Lotus said.
On Friday, Srinagar recorded 19.5 °C as the maximum and 5.0°C as minimum temperature. Ski-resort Gulmarg in north Kashmir’s Baramulla recorded 12.0 °C as the maximum temperature and 0.5°C as minimum temperature and was the coldest place in Kashmir.
Health resort Pahalgam recorded 18.2 °C as maximum temperature and a minimum of minus 1.2 °C degrees. Qazigund recorded 19.8 °C and 3.6° C as maximum and minimum temperatures.
Kupwara in north Kashmir recorded maximum temperatures of 21.9 °C, while minimum temperatures settled at 4.6°C respectively.
