MeT predicts light rains in Kashmir today

Srinagar, Apr 09: The Meteorological Department has forecasted light rain in plains and snow at higher reaches during the next 24 hours in the Himalayan region till April 12.
Director Meteorological Department, Kashmir, Dr Mukhtar Ahmad told Rising Kashmir that there is forecast of light rain, snowfall at higher reaches at many places on 10th April towards late evening.
“From April 11-12, there will be partly to generally cloudy weather with light rain/snow (higher reaches) at few places. While from April 13-15, generally cloudy weather is expected with light to moderate rain/snow (higher reaches) at many places with thunder/lightning/hailstorm and gusty winds at few places,” he said.
Dr Mukhtar said from April 16-17, he said, partly to generally cloudy weather with light rain/snow (higher reaches) is expected at few places. Farmers are advised to suspend their farm operations from 10th April afternoon and there will be temporary disruption of surface transportation over higher reaches during 14-15th April, he said.
Dr Mukhtar said that there will be temporary water logging in a few low- lying areas. Landslides/shooting stones at few vulnerable spots along the highway, he added.
On Tuesday, the minimum temperature recorded in Srinagar was 5.6 degrees Celsius, Qazigund 3.4 degrees Celsius, Pahalgam 0.3 degrees Celsius, Kupwara 3.0 degrees Celsius, Kokernag 6.6 degrees Celsius, and Gulmarg 1.2 degrees Celsius,” the MeT office said.
Meanwhile, a traffic police spokesman said during the past 24 hours, there was slow movement observed on NH-44 due to breakdown of 07 HMVs, single lane traffic at Dalwas, Mehad, Panthyal, Nachlana, Shalgarhi etc. and poor surface condition of road at many places between Nashri and NAVYUG Tunnel.
He said, subject to fair weather and good road condition, LMVs Passenger/Private Cars shall be allowed from both sides on Jammu-Srinagar NHW viz Jammu towards Srinagar and vice-versa on Wednesday, However, HMVs shall be managed in regulated manner after assessing the road condition.
“Cut off timing for LMVs in view of single road at Dalwas, Panthyal, Nachlana, Kishtwari Pather etc:-(subject to change depending on road condition) from Nagrota (Jammu) 0600 hrs to 1300 hrsfrom Jakheni (Udhampur) 0700 hrs to 1400 hrs &from NAVYUG Tunnel (Qazigund side) 0600 hrs to 1300 hrsNo Vehicle shall be allowed after cut off timing,” he said.
Regarding SSG Road, subject to fair weather and good road condition (after getting green signal from Road maintenance agencies) , only one way traffic for LMVs 4X4 (passenger/Load carrier) from Srinagar towards Kargil shall be allowed on Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumri road.
“These vehicles shall be allowed from Sonamarg at 0930 hrs upto 1300 hrs. Motorists are advised to carry anti-skid chains to gain more grip on the slippery road. No vehicle shall be allowed without anti-skid chain/after cut off timing,” he said.
