MeT predicts inclement weather till  April 6

Srinagar, Mar 31: The Meteorological Department (MeT) forecasted intermittent rain in the plains and light snowfall over higher peaks in  the Kashmir valley between April 1 and April 5. 
Jammu and Kashmir might have bad weather till April 6th, according to Muktar Ahmad, the Director of the Meteorological Centre Kashmir. 
“We anticipate mild to moderate rain, thunderstorms, and light snowfall over higher ranges starting on April 1 in the majority of J&K locations. Furthermore possible hailstorms are expected over remote areas accompanied by powerful gusts of wind ,”he stated.
Mukhtar said fromApril 2-7, weather will remain mostly cloudy with intermittent light rain with thunderstorm at scattered to fairly widespread places.
He urged farmers to suspend irrigation in field crops and chemical spraying of orchards during next 1 week.  Travel after confirming road status from concerned traffic police, he said.
Following the cloudy weather, in various parts of Kashmir on Wednesday, Kashmir witnessed a drop in night temperatures and rain lashed parts of Kashmir. 
While moderate rain along with gusty winds lashed Jammu City and others parts of Kathua, Reasi and Udhampur.
A traffic police department spokesman from the past 24 hours, Jammu Srinagar NHW remained blocked for more than 4 hours at several places on NHW due to shooting stones/landslides.
He said on Saturday, subject to fair weather and road clearance, LMVs Passenger/Private Cars shall be allowed from both sides on Jammu-Srinagar NHW viz Jammu towards Srinagar and vice-versa. TCU Jammu/Srinagar shall liaise with TCU Ramban before releasing the traffic, it said.
Similarly, on the Srinagar-Leh road, only LMVs Goods/passengers) from Srinagar towards Leh shall be allowed on the Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumri road. These vehicles shall be allowed from Sonamarg at 0700 hrs. up to 0830 hrs.
“ No vehicle shall be allowed to ply after cut-off timing. Motorists are advised to carry an anti-skid chain to gain more grip on the slippery road. No vehicle shall be allowed without an anti-skid chain,” the spokesman said.
Jammu and Kashmir Disaster Management Authority (JKDMA) on Friday issued an avalanche warning for four districts in the Union Territory, advising people against venturing out into the avalanche-prone areas.
JKDMA spokesperson said that avalanche with low danger level is likely to occur above 3500 metres above sea level over Doda, Kishtwar, Poonch and Ramban districts in next 24 hours.
“People living in these areas are advised to take precautions and avoid venturing in the avalanche prone areas till further orders”, he said.
