Ganderbal, Sep 02: Mian Mehar Ali, son of National Conference (NC) senior leader and Member Parliament Mian Altaf, filed his nomination papers for the Kangan Assembly Constituency on Monday at the Returning Officer’s office here.
NC Vice President Omar Abdullah, Mian Altaf Ahmad and other party leaders accompanied Mehar Ali.
Speaking to reporters, Omar said Mehar represents the fourth generation of his family to enter politics. He expressed confidence that Mehar will uphold the family legacy of public service.
The Election Commission has announced that candidates must submit their nomination papers for this phase by September 05, with scrutiny set for September 06. The final date for withdrawing candidatures is September 09. The second phase of the assembly elections will commence in the third week of September, with polling scheduled for September 25 across 26 seats.
Notably, the Kangan Constituency seat is reserved for the Scheduled Tribe (ST) category, and only candidates from this category are eligible to submit their nominations.
