Meeting with MHA ended without any concrete outcome: Ladakh leaders

March 04: A six-member delegation of Apex Body, Leh (ABL) and Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA) from Union Territory of Ladakh called on Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi and stated that the meeting ended without any concrete outcome.

The communiqué issued both ABL and KDA reads that on Monday Sub-Committee of Leh Apex Body and Kargil Democratic Alliance held a meeting with the officials of Ministry of Home Affairs, advisor UT Ladakh.

“The meeting ended without any concrete outcome. Subsequently the Subcommittee members had a meeting with Hon’ble Home Minister Amit Shah at his residence,” it said.

This meeting too didn’t result in any positive outcome. Both the bodies will devise future course of action after consultation with the people of the two districts, the communique said.

Vice president LBA, Chhering Dorje told Rising Kashmir that there was no concrete response by the Union leadership in the meeting and future program will be decided after consultation of people of Leh and Kargil.

Meanwhile, MHA Spokesman said that a six-member delegation from Union Territory of Ladakh called on Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi.

He said the Union Home Minister assured the delegation that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Government of India is committed to provide necessary Constitutional safeguards to the Union Territory of Ladakh.

The spokesman said that HM assured that the High-Powered Committee on Ladakh constituted to look into the demands of ABL and KDA have been discussing the modalities to provide such Constitutional safeguards.

 The Home Minister expressed that the consultative mechanism established through this High-Powered Committee should continue to engage on issues such as measures to protect the region’s unique culture and language, protection of land and employment, inclusive development and employment generation, empowerment of LAHDCs and examine constitutional safeguards for positive outcomes.

“High Powered Committee under the Union Minister of State for Home Affairs has been working actively with the representatives of ABL and KDA. A significant progress has been made,” the spokesman said.

A sub-committee constituted by the HPC, is also actively engaged with the Ministry of Law and other experts. The second meeting of the said sub-committee was held on Monday which was attended by the representatives of ABL and KDA.

Senior officers of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Department of Legal Affairs and Legislative Department were also present. The meeting was held in a cordial manner and various issues pertaining to land, employment and constitutional safeguards progressed for the benefit of the people of Ladakh.

The Subcommittee was formed during the February 19, meeting in New Delhi after which another around of talk was held on February 24, where the three agendas out of Four-point agenda were discussed. After the meeting it was decide to hold a meeting with the MHA on the issue of Statehood and Six Schedule on March 04 that took place on Monday.

The sub-committee was represented by Ladakh Buddhist Association’s (LBA) president Thupstan Tsewang, vice president Chhering Dorje and Ladakh Congress president Nawang Rogzin Jora ( from Leh Apex Body) , Qamar Ali Akhoon, General secretary of the Kargil unit of the National Conference, Asgar Ali Karbalai, working president of the Ladakh Congress, and Sajjad Kargili, representative of Islamia School, Kargil, ( from Kargil Democratic Alliance).
