Kulgam, Feb 14: The Municipal Council (MC) Kulgam conducts awareness activities to educate the community on efficient waste disposal in segregated form.
Irfan Ahmad, Executive Officer (EO) MC Kulgam, told Rising Kashmir that the MC is collecting waste in segregated form, and residents are becoming increasingly educated about the importance of segregation.
He said these initiatives engage residents in understanding the importance of proper waste management and encourage active participation in maintaining clean surroundings. “The sanitation workers of MC Kulgam, who go to each ward for collection, have already been trained in the norms of waste collection in segregated form,” he said.
Irfan said that residents are being educated about kitchen waste, including both wet and dry waste, and their consistent support has made the work easier for MC employees.
“We aim to make Kulgam polythene and plastic-free. Also, people can utilize kitchen waste to produce organic fertilizer or vermicompost for agricultural use,” he said, adding that 10 hopper vehicles and 24 tricycles are currently in operation, collecting waste in segregated form door-to-door.
“Importantly, there are no open littering points in town anymore, and sanitation workers also clean the market during the evening shift,” he added.
