Budgam, July 12: Residents of Mazhama village in central Kashmir’s Budgam district blocked the Srinagar-Gulmarg road on Friday, demanding that the government supply potable drinking water to the village.
They said the lack of proper drinking water supply in the village was the primary reason for their road blockade. “We urge the Public Health Engineering Department to ensure a sufficient drinking water supply for the village,” said one protester.
A protesting woman from Mazhama said the villagers are facing hardships due to the shortage of drinking water. “The government should take necessary steps and provide a proper supply of drinking water to the village,” she said.
She questioned, “If the government can provide drinking water to every village in the Kashmir valley through the Jal Jeevan Mission scheme, why is our village not receiving proper water supply under this initiative?”
Traffic movement was restored on both sides of the road upon the arrival of the Station House Officer from the Magam Police Station. An official from the Magam Police Station confirmed that traffic movement had resumed on the Srinagar-Gulmarg road.
