Mayor SMC lays foundation stone of Sarwar-e-Azam Stadium in Srinagar

Srinagar, Sep 22: The Mayor, Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) Junaid Azim Matoo on Thursday laid the foundation stone of Sarwar-e-Azam Stadium at Malabagh, here.
The foundation stone was laid in the presence of Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Ajaz Asad; Commissioner SMC, Athar Amir Khan; SSP Srinagar, Rakesh Balwal and many senior Officers from PHE and SMC.
Lauding the youth of Jammu and Kashmir, the Mayor said that the youth are the engine for the national development and have a vital role in an overall development of the welfare society.
“Our youth are full of talent and energy, they deserve better opportunities in terms of standard infrastructure and multiple opportunities to channelize and showcase their skills properly” he added.
“On this occasion, when a long pending demand of the sports enthusiasts and general public in the area is being finally fulfilled, I promise a full support to sports lovers from the city in shaping their dreams to reality and my best wishes are always with them,” the Mayor said while wishing the sports fraternity and youth on the occasion.
Adding further, Matoo said that the stadium would be equipped with state of art facilities and would be developed on modern lines.
Stating that the sufficient funds would be kept at the disposal for the project, Matoo said that he will personally ensure that the project is completed within the four months of the stipulated time.
Sarwar-e-Azam Stadium will house both cricket ground and football ground and is expected to come up at the cost of 134 lakhs in Malabagh on the outskirts of Srinagar. The stadium will be equipped with all the latest facilities and would cater to the needs of a large section of sports enthusiasts in particular and the public in general in and around the area. 
On the occasion, a cricket match, SAM T20 was also organized by a Sports Association Malabagh. The match was played between Malabagh United and Spartan Zakura.
At the culmination of the match, Mayor SMC distributed prizes among the winners and the participants of the match.
