Baramulla, March 25: The maternity operations at the Mother and Child Hospital in Sopore town of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district have been shifted to the Sub-District Hospital due to the lack of facilities.
Block Medical Officer (BMO) Sopore Dr Zulfiqar Sofi told Rising Kashmir that the decision was taken keeping in view the medical necessities and the dilapidated condition of the MCH building.
“The OPD for maternal and child care operations has been moved to Sub-District Hospital Sopore to address the issues being faced by the people. It was a long-pending demand of the people of Sopore,” the BMO said.
He said that the labour room and theatre of the child care hospital were shifted to a new building at SDH Sopore where patients can access Lab, X-ray, USG, CT and physician consultation facilities.
The move has been welcomed by patients and attendants who said they were facing severe hardships due to the lack of infrastructure and facilities at the MCH.
The locals of Sopore hailed the move and thanked the healthcare officials for fulfilling the long-pending demand of the patients and attendants.
“Despite sharing a huge caseload of patients from various north Kashmir districts, the Maternity and Childcare Hospital (MCH) Sopore was lacking infrastructure, leaving the patients in disarray,” said Muneeb Ahmed, a local.
BMO Sopore added that thousands of patients visiting the hospital for maternity and child care will now benefit from the move.
