Ganderbal, Apr 15: A massive snow clearance operation is currently underway on the Amarnath Yatra track in Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district, led by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), to ensure safe and smooth passage for pilgrims en route to the holy Amarnath Cave.
According to official sources, the BRO has initiated the snow removal process along the Baltal-Domail stretch of the pilgrimage route. This preemptive effort aims to make the path ready well ahead of the annual Amarnath Yatra, which draws thousands of devotees each year.
The initial road construction on this vital stretch was carried out by the Roads and Buildings (R&B) Department. After its completion, the track was formally handed over to the BRO, which began snow clearance operations in 2023.
BRO’s Project Beacon has deployed machinery and a dedicated workforce to clear the snow from the Baltal to Domail stretch,” sources said. “If the weather conditions remain favorable, the operation is likely to be completed soon.”
Officials from BRO confirmed that the snow clearance is progressing steadily, ensuring that the track will be ready in time for the pilgrimage.
The annual Amarnath Yatra is scheduled to begin on July 3, 2025, and will conclude on August 9, 2025, coinciding with the festival of Raksha Bandhan. The Yatra will commence simultaneously from both the Pahalgam route in Anantnag district and the Baltal route in Ganderbal district.
This sacred Hindu pilgrimage to the revered Amarnath Cave is a significant spiritual journey, and authorities are leaving no stone unturned in ensuring the safety and comfort of the pilgrims.
