Srinagar, Nov 10: An encounter is underway between terrorists and security forces in the Zabarwan forest range on the outskirts of Srinagar on Sunday, following a tip-off about suspicious activity in the specific area.
A police spokesman said a joint operation by security forces was launched in Zabarwan forest area of Srinagar based on specific intelligence about the presence of terrorists. An exchange of fire ensued during the operation, he said.
The gunfight began around 9 am in the forest area between Dachigam and the upper reaches of Nishat. Security forces had launched a cordon and search operation after receiving information about the presence of terrorists in the area.
A senior police officer told Rising Kashmir that they have received some inputs about the presence of terrorists in the area and after that a massive search was started. The area is still under tight cordon and firing has stopped from both ends.
“So far there are no reports of injuries or casualties from either side. We will be using drones and quadcopters on Monday to sanitize the area again,” he added.
Meanwhile, last week, a top terrorist commander Pakistan identified as Usman was killed in a gunfight in Khanyar area of Srinagar after security forces received intel about terrorists hiding in a residential house.
During the past three-days, three unidentified terrorists were killed during twin encounters with security forces in Rampur and Sagipora areas of Sopore in north Kashmir. Huge chunks of arms and ammunition were recovered from their possession.
