According to the Fire and Emergency Department, the blaze erupted in one of the residential houses and swiftly spread to adjacent structures in the densely populated area.
Upon receiving the distress call, firefighting teams from Old Town Baramulla, Sopore, and Baramulla Command Sopore rushed to the scene. They were assisted by personnel from the Jammu and Kashmir Police, the Indian Army’s 46 Rashtriya Rifles (RR), and the CRPF 53 Battalion, who played a crucial role in firefighting and evacuation efforts.
After intense operations, the fire was successfully brought under control. However, as a precautionary measure, firefighting teams will remain stationed overnight to monitor the site and prevent any further flare-ups.
During the operation, some individuals assisting the rescue teams lost consciousness due to smoke inhalation. They were immediately shifted to Government Medical College Baramulla for treatment, where medical authorities confirmed that all are now stable and under observation.
The district administration has arranged temporary shelters for the displaced families. Tehsildar Baramulla, along with senior officials, visited the affected residents, assessed the damage, and assured them of government support. Relief efforts, including food, clothing, and temporary accommodation, are being organised for the victims.
A police spokesman in Baramulla confirmed that the fire was contained late at night, with approximately 12 structures damaged and 13 families relocated to shelter homes. Meanwhile, authorities have launched an inquiry to determine the cause of the fire and assess the financial losses.
