Massive cleanliness drive revives Tullamulla river’s glory, ignites calls for conservation

Ganderbal, Aug 06: In a remarkable display of collective action, the newly formed Civil Society Tulmullah, in collaboration with local community members, orchestrated a massive cleanliness drive along the Tullamulla River on Sunday, highlighting the critical need to preserve clean rivers.
The event, held in the Tullamulla region, showcased the potential of unified efforts to bring about significant environmental change. Over 70 dedicated volunteers from Civil Society Tullamulla united to restore the river’s pristine condition. Their endeavors involved the meticulous removal of debris and invasive plants, leading to a marked improvement in water quality. The once polluted watercourse has now been rejuvenated, bustling with renewed vitality.
Manzoor Wani, Chairman of Civil Society Tullamulla, expressed his concerns about the escalating pollution of water bodies. He emphasized that not only is it the responsibility of the civil society, but also the duty of those living near these rivers, to prevent the indiscriminate disposal of waste into these vital water sources.
During the cleanup, alarming discoveries were made, including the presence of plastic waste, animal remains, and various pollutants embedded in the riverbed. Wani stressed that local residents might not fully grasp the potential health hazards associated with consuming water from contaminated rivers.
Calling on authorities to prioritize river conservation efforts, Wani urged for immediate action. He highlighted the lack of progress in implementing the Tullamulla River action plan and called for tangible steps to be taken to safeguard this vital resource.
The Tullamulla River carries historical significance, being connected to the revered Shri Mata Khirbhawani temple and the renowned Ziyarat of Hazrat Mir Baba Hyder (RA). Its rejuvenation stands as a testament to the community’s commitment to preserving their heritage and environment.
This inspiring initiative has sparked a wave of enthusiasm among citizens, motivating them to initiate similar projects in their own localities. The Tullamulla River cleanup serves as a rallying call to safeguard and restore precious natural ecosystems.
