Jammu, June 28: Apni Party provincial president Jammu and former minister S. Manjit Singh on Wednesday felicitated the athlete Rakesh Kumar who has won two Silver medals and one Bronze medal in an athletic championship which was held in Dehradun.
Singh welcomed Rakesh Kumar and his coach Shamas Din at Vijaypur Chowk in Samba when they reached there from Dehradun. Kumar has won two Silver medals and one Bronze medal in Dehradun – 100 meters, 800 meters.
In the 1500 meters race, he won the Bronze medal bringing pride to Jammu and Kashmir during the championship, the former minister said. He also honoured the coach Shams Din.
While appreciating Kumar and his coach for their efforts, he said the youth of Jammu and Kashmir should involve themselves in sports activities that will promote health and their career in athletics, cricket, football, etc. He said the government should take steps to promote sportsmanship and provide scholarships and sponsorship to the sportsmen in Jammu and Kashmir to encourage youth in sports activities.
