Jammu, July 26: Apni Party provincial president Jammu and former minister S Manjit Singh has directed the party leaders and workers to gear up for the upcoming Panchayat, and Urban Local Body (ULB) Elections in Jammu and Kashmir.
“The leaders should outreach the people in all the districts, villages and blocks of the region to make people aware of the policy and agenda of development adopted by Apni Party,” said Singh while addressing a meeting of provincial presidents of different wings, district presidents, frontal heads, and other leaders here at Gandhi Nagar.
He said, “The people are in no mood to accept the bureaucratic rule in Jammu and Kashmir. Therefore, the PRI and Urban Local Body elections provide an opportunity for the people to elect their own representatives from their areas. This is the first step towards the strengthening of democratic roots in Jammu and Kashmir as the Apni Party wants restoration of the democratic system in the erstwhile State.”
“Get ready for the PRI and Urban Local Body elections in J&K. These elections will be decisive. Hence, the public outreach programmes should be intensified in every nook and corner of the region,” the former minister said, adding, “The people of J&K are waiting for the assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir and restoration of statehood to the erstwhile historic state that was downgraded into a Union Territory.”
“The sentiments of the people from both the regions of J&K have been hurt by the downgrading of the historic state of Jammu and Kashmir. Its honour should be restored and the assembly elections should not be delayed any further,” he said while asking the party leaders to educate people about the social security scheme, equitable development, protection of natural resources and employment for the locals from outsiders.
