Jammu, Oct 10: Apni Party Provincial President Jammu and former minister, S Manjit Singh has demanded compensation to the farmers who have lost their basmati rice harvest in the agricultural fields spread across Kathua, Samba and Jammu districts following the last night hail storm and wind storm.
In a statement issued here, the former minister said the farmers have suffered heavy losses due to the hail storm and wind storm in the plain areas that have damaged their basmati rice harvest.
“The concerned authorities should make an assessment of the losses suffered by the farmers in different areas and accordingly, these farmers should be compensated for the losses they have suffered,” he said.
He said that the situation was unimaginable for the farmers who were accepting a good harvest of the world-famous basmati rice lost their crop to the hailstorm and wind storm.
“The government should also send the assessment teams of revenue department and PRIs to the rural and hilly areas to assess the losses because winds have caused damages,” he said.
Singh said that the administration in these three districts should immediately release some compensation in favour of the farmers in their respective districts.
He demanded a debit waiver for the farmers who availed of KCC loans in a bid to provide them relief and provide free electricity to the farmers in Jammu, Samba and Kathua districts.
