Jammu, Oct 16: Apni Party Provincial President Jammu and former minister S Manjit Singh on Monday demanded the formation of a policy to encourage sportsmanship in J&K and the establishment of fully equipped sports stadiums with trained coaches in each block of Jammu division.
The former minister was addressing a meeting of youth in Marh Block that was organised by SC State President Bodh Raj Bhagat with dozens of youth. In his address, Singh appreciated the Apni Party leaders for encouraging youth to get involved in sports activities that would enable them to remain physically and mentally fit, the party said in a statement.
“The physical activities are important as well as the revival of traditional sports like wrestling, horse riding, bow-arrow etc by involving the youth and the elders of the villages,” he said.
Singh demanded coordination between society and the police to ensure a curb on drug peddling and addiction in Jammu and Kashmir. He demanded that the authorities should establish a sports stadium, fully equip, develop and maintain already established stadiums, and appoint adequate numbers of coaches for the training of the sports activities in different fields.
“It is unfortunate that the sports are promoted among the youth in Haryana and Punjab which are our neighbouring states of Jammu and Kashmir, but the passion among the authorities is missed,” he said.
Meanwhile, the former minister along with the Apni Party leaders Bodh Raj Bhagat, OBC Wing J&K President Bhagat Ram, Senior Vice President Jammu Urban, Vaibhav Mattoo and others distributed sports kits among the youth.
