Srinagar, Feb 5: In a significant move towards enhancing medical education and healthcare infrastructure in rural areas, Union Health Minister, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, inaugurated the foundation stone-laying ceremony for a cutting-edge Nursing College and Nursing Hostel in Handwara, Kupwara. The ceremony, conducted via video conferencing, witnessed the esteemed presence of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha.
Expressing gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Union Health Ministry, LG Sinha lauded the unprecedented expansion of health facilities and medical education infrastructure in the Union Territory. The new Nursing College is poised to make a substantial contribution to medical education and healthcare in the strategically located border district of Kupwara.
Highlighting the transformative strides in healthcare accessibility, LG Sinha shared that in the past four years, around 4500 seats have been added in MBBS, PG, and Nursing Education, showcasing a commitment to nurturing the medical talent of the region.
Emphasizing the administration’s dedication to delivering quality health services, LG Sinha stressed a major push towards developing and deploying modern health technologies for future care, aligning with the broader vision of advancing healthcare in the region.
The Handwara Nursing College project is slated for completion within four working seasons, promising a swift and efficient establishment that will strengthen the medical education landscape in the region.
In addition to laying the foundation stone for the Nursing College, the Union Health Minister inaugurated the new building of the National Dental Commission. Further reinforcing the commitment to healthcare across the nation, he also laid the foundation stone for three nursing colleges in Andhra Pradesh and launched the National Dental Register.
The event witnessed the presence of Dr. Manik Saha, Chief Minister of Tripura; Dr. Dibyendu Mazumdar, President of the Dental Council of India; and Apurva Chandra, Union Secretary of Health and Family Welfare.
Irfan Sultan Panditpori, Chairman of the District Development Council Kupwara, and other local officials, along with medical professionals from the Government Medical College Handwara, participated in the event virtually.
