Srinagar, Feb 29: In a shocking incident, a man killed his wife and surrendered to the police in Cheki-Audoora village of Mawer in north Kashmir’s Handwara on Thursday.
According to family members, “On the fateful night, the wife called him for dinner while he was busy on the phone. When he arrived, he was angry and slapped her twice, according to a relative.”
After killing his wife with an axe, he left his children at his uncle’s house. He handed his phone to his daughter and told her he had killed their mother and would surrender himself to the police. “We are demanding strict action against this murderer,” said a family member.
The family of the deceased has accused her husband of having an extramarital affair and threatening her in the past, saying that he would kill her today or tomorrow, said the sister of the deceased. “What will happen to these young children? Who will take care of them?” she said while crying. “We want the punishment for the accused who mercilessly killed our sister.”
The family of the deceased stated, “They have received a call from local residents informing them that their daughter has been killed by her husband. Upon reaching the spot, they found her unconscious.” The deceased’s family has demanded strict action against the accused person.
According to locals, the accused returned from out of state a few days ago, and they had an arranged marriage with four children. “The accused, as per reports, had prepared an axe to cut down a tree in their yard before the incident. He was reportedly working as a mason.”
A senior police officer, confirming the incident with Rising Kashmir, said they have registered a case under FIR No. 5/2024 under IPC 302 under the relevant sections of the law, and they will investigate the case professionally. The accused, as per police, has confessed the crime, and further investigation in this case is going on.
The accused has been identified as Mohammad Maqbool Mir, son of Ali Mohammad Mir, a resident of Cheki-Audoora.
The incident has sent shockwaves among people in the area.
