Srinagar, Jan 11: The Jammu and Kashmir police said on Wednesday that they had arrested a man along with Rs. 57.43 Lakhs cash hidden in a geyser in Handwara’sBaripora area this afternoon.
The accused, who has been identified as Syed Irfan Abdullah, was arrested during a Naka check in the Braripora area of Handwara. The police also stated that a case had been filed and that further investigation had begun.
“During a Naka check at BrariporaHandwara, police apprehended one Syed Irfan Abdullah, a resident of Laribal, Handwara, and recovered Rs. 57.43 lacs hidden in a geyser.”The magistrate was also present on the spot. “Case filed, investigation underway,” police tweeted.
A senior official from Handwara told Rising Kashmir that they are looking into the matter and that more arrests are likely.
During the security check at Baripora, police noticed images of suspicious things in a car. During a check, no suspicious items were found inside but the geyser was unusually heavy, the officials said.
When screened again, it showed something was hidden between layers of the geyser, the officer said.
“The geyser box was cut open and the notes wrapped with a sheet were found.”
