JAMMU, Dec 30: In a significant achievement against Pakistan-sponsored terrorism, the Director General of Police (DGP) for the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K), RR Swain, said that security forces have achieved a major success by eliminating fifty five foreign terrorists this year.
Addressing a press conference at Gulshan Ground, Jammu, the DGP highlighted the substantial decline in terror-related incidents, emphasizing a 63% reduction compared to the previous year. He stated, “A total of seventy-six terrorists, including a majority of 55 foreign terrorists, have been eliminated by the security forces in 2023, marking a significant success against Pakistan-sponsored terrorism.”
Swain further revealed that the recruitment of terrorists witnessed an 80% decline, with only 22 recruitments recorded in 2023. The number of active local terrorists in the Union Territory is now at an all-time low of 31.
“The collaborative efforts of the Police and other security agencies have played a crucial role in putting an end to violence,” expressed the DGP. He acknowledged the sacrifice of four Police Personnel, including one DSP, Inspector, and two constables in terror-related incidents during 2023.
Highlighting the broader impact, Swain shared, “There is not just a decline in terrorist activities but also in strike calls and stone-pelting incidents. Only 14 civilians fell victim to terrorist attacks in 2023.”
Providing a comprehensive overview, he stated, “A total of 291 terrorist associates were arrested, and 201 Overground Workers (OGWs) were booked for aiding and supporting terrorists in different areas of J&K.”
In the relentless fight against misinformation, the DGP revealed the identification of more than 8000 social media accounts engaged in spreading false information in 2023, with appropriate actions taken against them.
“Our war is not over yet; it is against all those who support terror-related activities, be it terror funding, recruitment, or logistical support. J&K has witnessed an 80% decline in the recruitment of terrorists, showcasing the sustained efforts to bring peace and stability to the region,” Swain added.
