Baramulla, Apr 11: The Jammu and Kashmir police on Tuesday said that they have busted an interstate drug trafficking network, apprehending several involved , including a woman.
The operation resulted in the seizure of a substantial amount of contraband substances, marking a significant blow to the interstate drug trade, police said.
Addressing a press conference, Senior Superintendent of Police Sopore, Shabir Nawab, said that two individuals, identified as Tanveer Ahmed Shah and Javaid Ahmed Shah of Sopore, were apprehended on March 01 during a Naka at Tarzoo.
“The police seized 3512 tablets of Spasmo Proxyvon plus tablets from their possession,” he said.
He said that individuals who were held during the investigation disclosed the identity of another person who is allegedly involved in the sale of drugs in and around the area of Sopore.
“The arrested person was identified as Amir Sadeeq Parra of Chandoosa Baramulla. On his personal search 112 tablets were recovered,” SSP Sopore said.
He said during further investigation names of two kingpins identified as Urooj daughter of Mohammad Muzzafar Bhat of Batapora Sopore and Mohammad Ashraf Mir son of Late Farooq Ahmed Mir of Hathishah Sopore also came to fore.
“The duo was allegedly involved in the transportation of drugs from outside the valley to Sopore and surrounding regions. Based on the information provided by the previously apprehended individuals, the duo was subsequently arrested from the outskirts of Srinagar, along with 1648 capsules,” he further added.
The official further claimed that this significant development has led to the dismantling of a major interstate drug trafficking network
The Sopore police said that a case FIR No 07/2023 U/S 8/22-29 NDPS Act has been registered in Police Station Bomai and further investigation has been set into motion.
