Srinagar, May 16: Two unidentified terrorists were killed in a joint operation of Jammu and Kashmir Police and Army on Thursday after forces foiled a major infiltration along the Line of Control in Tangdhar Sector of Kupwara district in north Kashmir, officials said.
A senior police officer told Rising Kashmir that two unidentified terrorists have been killed on the other side of fence after the Indian army foiled an infiltration bid in the Amrohi, Tangdhar in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district. “An exchange of gunfire was going on when the last reports came in from the area,” he said.
The official said that during the wee hours, a movement of 2-3 terrorists was suspected and an operation was immediately launched. During firefight two terrorists were killed, whose identities were not yet ascertained, he said.
Meanwhile, Army Spokesman said that on specific intelligence input, a joint search operation was launched by Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police in general area Amrohi, Tangdhar, Kupwara on May 15.
“During search, 02 Pistols, ammunition and other war-like stores have been recovered,” he said.
“All the recovered materials have been taken into case records for further investigation. In this regard, Police have registered a case under relevant sections of law and investigation has been initiated,” he said adding that extensive search of the area is being carried out and further details if any will be shared accordingly.
Meanwhile, the army spokesman said that based on specific inputs from intelligence agencies, a Joint Search Operation was launched by Indian Army, BSF and Jammu and Kashmir Police on the intervening night of 15-16 May in general area Lunahare, Panzgam, Kupwara.
“One suspected individual has been apprehended along with recovery of 02 Pistols, 10 hand grenades and other war-like stores were recovered,” he said.
