Srinagar, Mar 24: Army on Friday said that one foreign infiltrator was killed as they have foiled a major infiltration bid along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jabdi area of Tangdhar in north Kashmir’s Kupwara and searches were underway to track the other infiltrators.
A senior Army Officer told Rising Kashmir that Army foiled an infiltration attempt by Pakistani terrorists in Jabdi forward areas of Tangdhar Sector on Friday and killed one infiltrator and recovered war-like stores from his possession.
“The operation is still underway to track the other members of the group. On Friday early morning operation was launched based on specific input and consequently, multiple ambushes were laid to trap the infiltrators,” he said.
The officer said infiltrators were hoping to use the cover of thick undergrowth, foliage, and continuous rain and low clouds to infiltrate. Due to dense forests, terrain, and other challenges, the operation is taking more time,” he said.
The officer said the body of deceased infiltrator has been retrieved and his identify is being ascertained.
The move comes three days after Northern Army Commander Lt Gen Upendra Dwivedi said ceasefire continues on alone the Line of Control (LoC) with Pakistan and there have been some infiltration attempts which have been successfully foiled by our units.
“The situation in the hinterland is largely under control. Army’s counter-insurgency grid is fully working with civil administration and efforts are on to stop such incidents completely,” he said.
In another case Army foiled another attempt of narco-terror smuggling in Poonch sector on Friday evening.
Defence Public Relation Officer Jammu Lt Col Devender Anand told Rising Kashmir that Army foiled yet another attempt of narco-terror smuggling by recovering 10 packets of narcotics in Doda Battalion area near Line of Control in Poonch Sector.
It is the second incident this month, he said on March 12, Army have recovered two kilograms of narcotics, two pistols and an improvised explosive device (IED) from Jhangar, Naushera sector of Rajouri district.
