Magical Chitra fails to cast spell on Rajasthan eves’

Trivanthripuram, Jan 04: Magical unbeaten century by J&K’s batting mainstay Chitra Singh Jamwal failed to cast spell on formidable Rajasthan as J&K lost in a close contest by 39 runs in the ongoing Senior Women’s One-Day Teophy at KCA Cricket Stadium, Trivanthripuram, Kerala on Thursday.
 
Chasing a good total of 223 runs, J&K managed to score 184 runs in the stipulated 50 overs by losing 8 wickets, thus lost the match by 38 runs. Chitra Singh Jamwal played a brilliant innings of 100 runs off 137 balls, studded with 10 magnificent boundaries. She played with solidity, sublimity, elegance and brilliance, showing stellar grit to notch up superb century. Anju Tomar also scored magnificent half-century, scoring 53 runs off 84 balls with 5 boundaries. None of the other batters could cross the double figure mark.
 
For Rajasthan, Archana Yogi took 3 wickets, while KP Choudhary and SS Kalal claimed 2 wickets each.
 
Earlier, winning the toss and batting first, Rajasthan scored 222 runs in 49.3 overs. BN Meena top scored with 48 runs off 52 balls, studded with 4 fours and one six, while skipper SL Meena scored with 46 runs off 50 balls with 7 boundaries. KP Choudhary (30), SP Kumawat (28), SR Jat (25) and TB Vaishnav (21) were the other major contributors.
 
Chitra Singh Jamwal and skipper Sandhya Sayal took 2 wickets each for J&K, while Sarla Devi, Ananaya Sharma, Rudrakshi Chib and Rubia Syed claimed one wicket each.
 
J&K will take on Goa in the next outing on January 6, 2024.
