Srinagar, Mar21: The Divisional Commissioner of Kashmir, Vijay Kumar Bidhuri, expressed optimism about the upcoming LokSabha elections in Jammu and Kashmir, anticipating a record-breaking turnout.
Speaking to reporters, he emphasised that preparations for the elections in the Kashmir Valley are well underway, assuring that they will be conducted fairly and transparently.
Bidhuri highlighted the significant responsibilities of the Jammu and Kashmir administration, particularly in organising the AmarnathYatra in 2024 and ensuring the integrity of the LokSabha elections. He stressed the importance of these tasks and affirmed the administration’s commitment to their successful execution.
Recent discussions regarding the AmarnathYatra have focused on ensuring comfortable accommodations for travellers.  Bidhuri also reassured the public about the preparations for the elections, indicating that all necessary arrangements are being made. With positive feedback from the ground, authorities anticipate a high voter turnout.
Encouraging public participation in the elections, Bidhuri emphasised the administration’s efforts to facilitate smooth operations for both the AmarnathYatra and the electoral process. Infrastructure development plans for Srinagar, including road improvements, are also in progress.
Bidhuri affirmed that the Jammu and Kashmir administration is fully prepared for both events, with all arrangements in place. The enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct aims to ensure a level playing field for all candidates. The Chief Election Office of J&K, along with district and regional election officials, is closely monitoring the situation and adapting to the circumstances as needed.
The Jammu and Kashmir administration is fully prepared to conduct both events seamlessly, and all the arrangements have been put in place. “The Model Code of Conduct (MCC) has been enforced to give everyone an equal opportunity to succeed. Chief Election Office J&K, with all DEOs and REOs, is keeping a close eye on the situation while taking the circumstances into account,” he added.
The Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir said that a meeting was held to review the arrangements for the annual AmarnathYatra. The ShriAmarnathYatra is expected to commence from June 29, with the Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha, chairing a meeting at the Raj Bhawan to discuss arrangements and preparations for the pilgrimage. The 52-day long pilgrimage will conclude on August 19, coinciding with Rakshabandhan.
“Once the LokSabha Polls conclude, the administration will focus on ShriAmarnath preparations, likely to commence from June 29 and conclude on August 19,” sources said. They indicated that registration for the Yatra is expected to begin in the coming months, with preparations to be expedited once the official announcement is made.In 2023, around 4.5 lakh pilgrims visited the ShriAmarnath Cave.
