Srinagar, Sept 11: A low-intensity explosion triggered panic in the Doda district on Thursday, though no casualties were reported, officials said Thursday.

The blast occurred in the Dumri-Thukar Mohalla area near Jamia Masjid, prompting an immediate response from security forces and forensic teams.

Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of the Doda-Kishtwar-Ramban range confirmed the incident in a post on X (formerly Twitter), stating: “A low-intensity blast was reported from Thukar Mohalla of Doda town. No injuries reported.”

Police teams, along with forensic science experts, swiftly cordoned off the area and began an investigation. Preliminary findings suggest that crude explosives may have been used, but a detailed analysis is being conducted by the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL).

A senior police officer said two individuals present at the scene during the explosion have been detained for questioning. “Efforts are underway to determine the exact nature of the blast and identify those responsible,” he said, adding that CCTV footage and other technical evidence are being closely examined.

In the aftermath of the explosion, security forces were placed on high alert across Doda and nearby areas to prevent any potential unrest. Additional deployments have been made to maintain peace and public order.

“Investigations are underway to determine whether the explosion was meant to create panic in the already tense atmosphere,” he added.

The incident comes amid heightened tensions in the district following the arrest of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Mehraj Malik under the Public Safety Act (PSA). The arrest had triggered violent clashes earlier this week between protesters and security forces, leading to the detention of over 80 people.

Prohibitory orders remained in force in Doda for the third consecutive day on Thursday. Mobile internet and WiFi services continued to be suspended as a precautionary measure.

The administration has also invoked Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) Act, restricting public movement without prior permission.
