Ganderbal, Feb 28: During the weekly Block Diwas program held at the Multi-Purpose Building in Gund area of Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district, civil society members, prominent citizens, and locals voiced several pressing issues affecting the region.
Highlighted concerns ranged from the availability of staff at PHC Hari Ganiwan to the urgent need for repairs on the Sumbal Bala bridge. Chairman of the Civil Society Tehsil Gund emphasized the necessity for the upgradation of electricity infrastructure, dredging of Ganai Mohallah Canal, and provision of fire service at Sonamarg. Additionally, demands were made for the establishment of a separate track for snow bikers at Sonamarg, infrastructure upgrades at Zerpora Middle School, transformer upgrades at Zerpora, and completion of the under-construction building for Kullan hospital.
Furthermore, the community called for 24*7 electricity for Kullan Hospital, addressing staff shortages at Kullan Higher Secondary School, and various other matters of public importance, including the establishment of an Education Zone for Gund and fencing of power canal at prone areas.
Addressing the public, the ADDC Ganderbal Mushtaq Ahmad Simnani stressed the primary objective of the outreach program to understand crucial issues at the grassroots level. He affirmed the role of such camps in bringing governance to the public’s doorsteps, enhancing public service delivery efficiency.
In response to the raised concerns, the ADDC issued directives to conduct awareness camps in respective areas, ensuring public benefit from centrally sponsored schemes. Regarding Sonamarg’s development, the ADDC assured dedication to transforming it into a premier tourist destination, highlighting ongoing projects and a forthcoming tourism plan.
The event, presided over by the Additional District Development Commissioner (ADDC), Mushtaq Ahmad Simnani, saw active participation from various stakeholders including CPO, Tehsildar Gund, ACP, CMO Ganderbal, SDPO Kangan, SHO Gund, district officers, and DDC member Gund.
Meanwhile, the Executive Director of the She Hope Society for Women Entrepreneurs provided an overview of the society’s schemes, including Sakhi, the One Stop Centre, the District Disability Rehabilitation Centre, and the Ahat-e-Waqar (Senior Citizen’s Home) in Ganderbal. He elucidated on how these platforms can be utilized to obtain services, sharing achieved milestones and encouraging community engagement for further outreach.
