Ganderbal, Feb 19: The road from Main Market Gund to Rezan Sonamarg in this central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district is in a pathetic condition for more than a year, locals said while criticising the administration for “ignoring” their plights.
The locals and transporters here demand “immediate redressal of this genuine grievance of repairing the road which connects around dozens of villages”.
“We are facing immense hardships due to the dilapidated condition of this vital road,” they said, adding that the government’s tall claims of providing better connectivity are “nothing but hollow slogans”.
The locals said they approached the concerned department several times but to no avail. “No heed was paid to our concerns. The administration isn’t concerned about our suffering,” said a local.
A delegation of drivers told Rising Kashmir that they are facing “tremendous” hardships due to the “worst condition” of the road.
“The road has developed ditches and potholes at several places like Rezan, Gund, Kullan, Rayil, etc. due to which the commuters, as well as transporters, are facing trouble. This problem becomes worse during rains and snowfall, thus making the road accident-prone,” one of the drivers said.
The drivers said that passenger vehicles have suffered damages due to the bad condition of the roads.
The residents and well as drivers have appealed to the concerned authorities to repair and macadamise the road at the earliest.
