Srinagar, Feb 12: General Officer Commanding (GOC) Lt. Gen. MV Suchindra Kumar of White Knight Corps emphasised the importance of cooperation between the local populace and security forces in maintaining peace and security in the Poonch-Rajouri region. Addressing a gathering, he highlighted the crucial role community support plays in this endeavor.
Accompanied by GOC CIF(R), Lt. Col. Suneel Bartwal, a Defense PRO, reiterated the Army’s commitment to community engagement during the visit to Poonch-Rajouri. Their aim was to foster unity and collaboration to strengthen peace and stability in the region.
The Corps Commander encouraged continued cooperation between the populace and security forces, recognising the significance of community support. He ensured a patient hearing for the legitimate concerns and aspirations of the populace in Pir Topa, Pangai, and adjoining villages, promising their redressal by the Indian Army and civil administration.
During the visit, the General Officer Commanding, White Knight Corps, also distributed wheelchairs to individuals with disabilities and honoured civilians who have made commendable contributions in education, sports, and literature. These gestures aimed to further strengthen the bond between the armed forces and the local populace.
The visit was part of efforts to promote peace, harmony, and security in the area. In addition to engaging with a large local gathering, the interaction included representatives from the Civil Administration, J&K Police, religious leaders, and renowned personalities.
The visit comes in the wake of recent incidents, including an ambush on December 21 resulting in the deaths and injuries of soldiers, and the subsequent deaths of three civilians. The Army has taken steps, including the removal of three officers and the initiation of a court of inquiry, in response to these incidents.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also reached out to the families of the deceased civilians, expressing concern and promising investigation into the matter.
