The Legal Metrology Department today slapped a fine of Rs 50,000 upon a petrol pump located on the National Highway Anantnag after it was observed that the Nozzle of a petrol pump was delivering deficient fuel to consumers by about 35 ml against every 5 litres.

The officials found that the display panel on the dispensing unit showing the delivery was not matching with the actual quantity delivered to the customers.
The surprise inspection led to the seizure of an erratic nozzle of the petrol pump.
The offender pleaded for the compounding offence at departmental level following which a case was compounded in terms of Section 48 of Legal Metrology Act 2009, LMD Anantnag stated.
It is pertinent to mention that the action against the petrol pump is one among the series of actions which has been taken by the department against the petrol pumps during the recent times.
LMD advised consumers to remain aware and defend their consumer rights while visiting a petrol pump.
Consumers can check the delivery of fuel on their own by using the verified 5 Litre conical measure which mandatorily needs to be kept with every petrol pump and it is a duty of every petrol pump management to facilitate the checking of fuel delivery to any consumer.
